I was born in Lanzhou, a city in northwest China, and eventually found my way to Silicon Valley—two worlds that could hardly feel more different.
For much of my life, I learned how to move forward: to study, adapt, build a career, cross cultures, and create a life far from where I began.
And somewhere along the way, another journey began.
I became less interested in how far we can go, and more curious about what brings us home.
My path has moved through business and real estate, psychology and cross-cultural studies, sound and movement, writing and community. It has taken me from the mountains of Tibet to the Amazon rainforest, from boardrooms and beautiful homes to drum circles, tea tables, and moments of deep stillness.
At first, these worlds seemed separate.
Over time, I began to understand that they were all asking me the same question:
Aya Yan Liang
Today, my work lives at the meeting place of these experiences.
I work with homes and the people who inhabit them. I listen to stories. I gather people. I explore sound, movement, land, beauty, and the subtle ways our surroundings shape how we feel. I write about the journey of returning—to the body, to one another, and to what feels true.
ECHO grew from this journey.
It is not an answer I have arrived at, but an ongoing practice of listening and remembering.
A return, again and again,
to the home within.
